Baby’s First Chiropractic Adjustment: What to Expect
If you are considering chiropractic care for your newborn, you probably have a lot of questions. That is normal and welcome. Here is what the process looks like at The Well.
How gentle is it?
Very. Baby adjustments use extremely light pressure, often no more than what you would use to check a ripe tomato. There is no twisting or forceful movement.
Why do parents choose it?
Some parents want their baby checked after a long or fast delivery, or they notice a preference for turning the head one way, or they have general questions about comfort and movement. We do not claim chiropractic care treats conditions such as colic, reflux, or ear infections. Please bring medical concerns to your pediatrician first.
Your baby’s first visit, step by step
- Your story. We ask about the pregnancy, birth, feeding, sleep, and your questions.
- A gentle exam. We observe how your baby moves, rests, and responds, and we check posture and comfort. We keep the room calm and let you hold your baby as needed.
- Our recommendation. We explain what we found in plain English. If your baby doesn’t need care, we say so. If something needs a pediatrician, we refer you.
- Light, gentle care, if appropriate. You stay right there throughout.

What to bring
- Your baby’s feeding schedule and a bottle or nursing cover.
- A list of your questions.
- Any notes from your pediatrician, if you’d like to share them.
Tips for a calm visit
Schedule around a good feeding and nap. Babies often relax during or after care, and a few minutes of fussing is normal.
Questions to ask any provider
- What training do you have in pediatric care?
- What will you do, and how long will it take?
- How will you coordinate with our pediatrician?
At The Well, we will answer all three gladly.
