Do You Really Need X-Rays Before a Chiropractic Adjustment?

You walk into a chiropractor’s office… and before anything else, they say: “We need to take X-rays.” Is that actually necessary? Or is it just part of the process—whether you need it or not?

A question a lot of people don’t think to ask is “Do you need X-rays before a chiropractic adjustment?” The answer isn’t a simple yes or no… It depends on your specific situation—and today I’ll break down exactly when they matter, and when they don’t.

Lets start by going over WHAT X-RAYS ACTUALLY SHOW.  They show: Bone structure, Alignment of your spine, Signs of arthritis or degeneration, Fractures or abnormalities, structural trauma and wear and tear over time. But here’s what they don’t show very well: Muscles, Ligaments, disc herniations and other soft issues. So right away, X-rays are helpful—but they’re not the full picture.

THE POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES X-rays aren’t dangerous in small amounts, but they’re not completely meaningless either. Consider: Exposure to radiation (even if low), in many cases the benefit of the information gained from taking x rays will drastically outweigh the exposure risk.
